General Music 8
West
Bridgewater Middle-High School
General Music 8
Class Syllabus
Mr. LeMarier
Rationale: Because students
need to take fine arts courses for graduation, it is important for students to
have a general knowledge of music as outlined by the MENC National Standards of
Music and the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework. A general knowledge of
music includes incorporating other educational subjects and disciplines that
students are learning as well as covering those that are needed for a
well-rounded music education. This class will allow students to explore
standard subjects through music as well as provide the musical foundation needed
for advanced music study.
OUTLINE: Topics covered in
general music class:
Reading Music
Performing rhythms
Defining and Describing Music
Multicultural Music
Music History
WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE:
o
Notebook for taking notes
o
Pencils for note writing
GRADING
During the quarter there
will be in-class homework assignments (unless class behavior is a problem in
which case it will become work to do at home) and three quizzes (one of which
will be a classroom project).
Class
Preparation (being on time and prepared) = 20%
You must be
on time with all the materials you need for class.
Homework/Class Assignments = 35%
Homework is to be turned in to be corrected the next class after it is assigned
unless said otherwise. Any homework not done will be a zero. Assignments done
in class will count towards homework.
Quizzes = 45%
Quizzes will be based on content that we cover in class. They will always be
announced.
POLICIES
- You will have to make
arrangements with the teacher if you miss a quiz to make it up. Quizzes must be
made up within 2 classes from absence or as arranged with the teacher.
- You will be required to
have homework completed by the next class after you return if you are absent.
Homework will be due the very next scheduled class if classroom behavior forces
homework to be done at home.
- Make sure you have
someone you can get notes from if you are absent.
- It is YOUR
responsibility to see me if you need to know what you missed (after class only
so instruction is not interrupted). If you don’t see me, you are still
responsible and will be graded as such.
DETENTION POLICY:
If you are found to be disrupting class in any manner,
your name will go on the board as a warning. If you are disrupting the class
again in any manner after your name has been put on the board, a check will go
next to your name and you will need to see the teacher the same day after class
to arrange a detention date. If you do not see the teacher to arrange a
detention date, you will be written up for failure to report to detention.
CLASSROOM RULES:
1.)
Raise your hand to talk
2.)
Do not talk while others are talking
3.)
Respect others
4.)
